Unfortunately you have a few deep scratches so a small buffering job is just not going to cut it you realize that you will need to rent a big drum sander or orbital sander and get this floor down to the original wood.

But the dull paper isn t cutting deep enough to remove the scratches left by the previous grit.
It will be easier to see exactly how much finish you have left to remove with the edger which keeps the amount of edging you have to do to a minimum.

Also keep in mind that the belt sander is a more aggressive floor sanding machine compared to the planetary sander so you may be able to rent this machine first in order to get the old finish off and rent the planetary sander to provide the finish sanding.
After the floor finish is gone you can t see whether the sander is doing its job.
